Biography

Surya Shankar Dash, born 1980, Cuttack, is an activist, filmmaker, journalist who also dabbles in music, art and acting. He is also known by the artist moniker ‘revolucinema’. He recently directed and produced the film “Niabatya” in Odisha.
From an early age he was drawn towards cinema, theatre, music and literature and honed his creative skills with active support from his family. At the age of 23 he made his first feature film, a futuristic sci-fi avant garde cinema, ‘Trail of the Tin Soldier’ that was written, shot, edited and directed by him. He also acted in the film as the protagonist. While working as an assistant director he often did small acting jobs for the films he was involved with. His ability to mould himself to the requirement of different characters helped him to sometimes act as several different characters in the same film. He has made more than 30 documentaries and 3 feature films which have been screened in more than 45 film festivals and 15 countries. He is an active participant in social and environmental movements. He is a producer of experimental electronica music, considered a musician’s musician who has greatly influenced many of the electronica musicians in India. He believes his creative pursuits enable him to overcome the disabling impact of his Autism Spectrum Disorder.
